We Answer FAQs About Hail Damage
Hail damage, despite the rarity of the event, is a relatively common problem homeowners face but not many are prepared to handle. You may have a lot of concerns regarding this weather event, and we’re prepared to answer your frequently asked questions.
KAT Constructions, LLC answers your frequently asked hail damage questions.
How Do I Spot Hail Damage?
Hail can dent and puncture your roof, but it varies in size as not all hail are the size of golf balls. In fact, most hail is barely visible up until they start damaging the roof with tiny dents and puncture wounds.
An easy way to tell if your roof has hail damage is if there are small pools of water in the dents and punctures. This is due to the hailstone melting and can be a real danger as it can form leaks.
How Much Damage Can Hail Cause on My Roof?
Larger hailstones can puncture and dent your roof, loosen shingles and form leaks. However, don’t underestimate the smaller hail pellets, as they are as dangerous as their larger counterparts. Small hailstones can loosen the granules in the shingles. While this doesn’t outright damage the roof, it does lower its weather tolerance. Regardless of how big or small the hailstones are, the minute hail still hits your roof, which requires hail damaged roof repair.
Can I Repair the Roof on My Own?
We don’t recommend it due to the inherent danger of going up the roof. The fact that the roof itself may be damaged and not as structurally sound means you’re risking injury if you attempt to repair your hail damaged roof. The roof is not always forthcoming with its damage.
